OUR STORY

A Company
Built on the Water

sampanena was founded by sailors for people who want to experience Singapore from the sea — at their own pace, with a crew that knows these waters.

WHO WE ARE

Founded in the Waters
of Keppel Bay

sampanena began in 2012 when two lifelong sailors — drawn together by their shared belief that Singapore's southern waters deserved more than crowded ferry routes — decided to offer something quieter. Something personal.

The name draws from the traditional flat-bottomed sampan, a vessel that has worked these straits for centuries. Our mission is simple: to bring people closer to the sea in a way that feels considered rather than commercial.

Over twelve years we have guided guests through evening sails, family days at anchor off Lazarus Island, and multi-night passages that feel genuinely removed from city life. The crew changes with the voyage, but the standard of care does not.

Our Mission

To offer thoughtfully crewed yacht charters that respect both the sea and the guest — unhurried, well-prepared, and honest about what the water can offer.

Our Values

Safety first, comfort second, and a quiet respect for the marine environment that sustains these passages. We operate at a pace that allows guests to actually notice where they are.

Our Waters

Singapore Strait, the Southern Islands cluster, Lazarus Island, St. John's, Kusu Island — routes chosen for their character as much as their accessibility.

OUR STANDARDS

How We Prepare Every Charter

MPA-Compliant Vessels

All charter vessels are registered and inspected under Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore guidelines. Safety equipment is checked before each departure.

Certified Skippers

Every captain holds a valid Skipper's Licence issued by the Singapore Sailing Federation or an equivalent recognised authority. No unlicensed crew on the water.

Safety Briefings

Guests receive a full safety orientation before departure, covering life jackets, emergency procedures, and onboard protocols. Life jackets in all sizes are kept on deck throughout.

Weather Monitoring

Our captains monitor MSS and regional marine forecasts in the 48 hours before departure. Voyages are rescheduled at no cost when conditions are unsuitable for safe passage.

Environmental Care

No waste is discharged at sea. Reef areas are approached cautiously, anchoring on sandy beds only. We support Singapore's national marine conservation guidelines.

Guest Privacy

Your booking details and personal information are handled with discretion. We do not share guest data with third parties and operate in line with Singapore's Personal Data Protection Act.

OUR EXPERTISE

Twelve Years Reading Singapore's Waters

Singapore sits at the confluence of the Malacca Strait and the South China Sea — one of the world's busiest maritime corridors, yet home to quiet anchorages and sheltered island passages that most city residents never see. sampanena has spent over a decade charting these routes, learning the tidal rhythms of the Singapore Strait, the afternoon wind patterns off Sentosa, and the reef conditions around the Southern Islands cluster.

Our charter planning draws on this accumulated knowledge. We choose departure times to suit prevailing conditions, select anchorages appropriate to the season, and plan provisioning around what local markets offer fresh. This kind of preparation is invisible to guests — which is precisely the point. A well-planned voyage feels effortless.

We work with a small roster of vessels, each maintained to a standard we inspect personally. Our captains are selected not only for their licences but for their communication — the ability to share what they know about a reef, a tidal window, or a particular stretch of water in a way that adds something to the day rather than simply getting the boat from one place to another.
